With inspiration like this it's bound to be awesome.
~ Gambort on Teller's Tales

Teller's Tales is inspired by a number of other games, fictional works, and aspects of real world history. These include:

  • The Elder Scrolls series, especially Morrowind and Skyrim
  • The Eberron campaign setting for D&D 3.5
  • Shadow of the Colossus and Ico by Team Ico
  • The Legend of Zelda series, especially Twilight Princess
  • Dragon Age II's fucking amazing art direction
  • Bastion
  • Exalted, more for the Asian mythological influences / not being Another Generic European Fantasy than for the super-powered player characters.
  • The God of War series
  • The Prince of Persia series, especially Prince of Persia '08
  • Okami
  • Journey
  • Outcast
  • Far Cry 2 (for the great African landscapes and vegetation, not so much the guns. Here's a screenshot album)
  • Darkest Dungeon – although not in terms of aesthetic

TV shows

  • Ōban Star-Racers
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender
  • Robin of Sherwood
  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

  • TVTropes, specifically the aversion, subversion, inversion, justification or at least lampshading of many fantasy tropes.
  • The guy who did the artwork for all those old Yes album covers.
